UC Public Safety to hold annual safety notification test
On Sept. 28, 2022, UC Public Safety will hold its bi-annual test of the safety notification system.
A test message will be sent around noon on Wednesday, Sept. 28, via text message, email, desktop notification, college cable TV, digital signage, Twitter and Bearcat Guardian. This bi-annual test provides an opportunity for Public Safety to ensure that all systems are working as designed.
“Testing our safety notification system provides us a valuable opportunity to verify that our systems are working correctly during a non-emergency situation. In addition, holding a test at the beginning of each semester provides our students, faculty and staff a chance to ensure that they are receiving emergency messages,” said Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police Eliot Isaac.
Recipients may notice a change in language in emergency alert messages moving forward. Formerly, messages began with “UC Alert.” However, due to new SMS carrier restrictions, alerts from Public Safety will begin with “UC Emergency” for immediate emergencies, such as an active attacker or a tornado, and “UC Urgent Alert” for situations such as a large power outage or a winter weather closure.
If you are a student that does not receive an alert, please ensure that all information is accurate in your Catalyst account. If you are a faculty or staff member that does not receive an alert, please ensure all information is accurate in your Directory account. University affiliates and parents can sign up for alerts online.
